From the Founder - Building The Garage Gym (& pursuing my 100%)

This post was adapted from our monthly newsletter. If you want the complete version delivered to your inbox, along with other educational and inspiring content, subscribe here.

I started this newsletter to document two journeys:

-the building of The Garage Gym as a business
     -my personal journey pursuing 100%

We believe there's a 100% version of you inside of you, desperate to get out… so the goal of this newsletter (blog!) is to document our journey towards 100% - and to encourage you to pursue yours, too.

BUILDING THE BRAND 003 - CATCHING YOU UP

We've been documenting The Garage Gym via our 'Building the Brand' series on Instagram for a while now.
In the third edition of From The Founder, we'll cover 003 (quickly) & get back to today.

→ Growing out of our first facility in Garwood and moving to Westfield.
→ Borrowing $20,000 personally to contribute to this next build.
→ Running a pre-sale with HVAC hanging from the ceiling.

You can watch Episode 003 here.

THE GARAGE GYM - MAY 2026

WESTFIELD:

From our last From The Founder we hosted our first ever TGG Field Day.

Members have long asked us to bring their kiddos to the gym because when they get home all nice and awesome after hitting the gym… the kiddos want to do the same.

As much as I'd love to welcome kids to the gym, we can't, but we can:

-rent a local park
-hit up partners in PROMIX and Juice House
-encourage members to bring their kiddos for TGG Field Day

My goal was to put everyone through a short workout, play some games, and have winners of the egg toss take home a Juice House giftcard.

What actually happened:

-no workout (kids weren't into it)
-tug of war and egg toss (kids were into it)

It was a ton of fun - watch a recap here 😂

LITTLE SILVER:

We finally, after 3 years, got permits to start building Little Silver Sauna !

If you're not aware - at our Little Silver facility there is a building on the corner we have long been working to convert into a sauna and cold plunge facility.

In getting permits, we hit the ground running:

-total demolition
-finalization of layout
-trenching for plumbing

…then we had a very particular plumbing inspector say we needed to adjust a thing or two before getting the go ahead to proceed.

We lost about a month in the process, but we're back !

This week the floor should be covered, leveled, and framing underway.

THE GARAGE GYM GENERAL

In Westfield we're close to membership capacity again. As of writing we have about 25 membership spots left before we cap memberships.

Why do we cap memberships? You might ask.

No one likes an overly crowded gym, so we limit memberships to ensure at any time of day you can train how you want, when you want, without the headache of crowds or waiting for equipment.

In Little Silver we have an exciting amount of room to grow with both The Garage and Little Silver Sauna opening this year.

We're in the process of hiring our first ever full time in person teammate too - which is incredibly exciting.

PURSUING MY 100% - BADWATER 135

In the interest of time I encourage you to read the first and second editions to understand Badwater 135 and what my training has been like.

To recap briefly:

-Badwater 135 is a 135 mile footrace through Death Valley, CA in July.
-100 people from around the world get the opportunity to run it each year.
-There is a rigorous application process to get into it.

& I got into the 2026 event !

WEEK 12 TRAINING UPDATE

Ahead of week 11, my coach asked me to do a 100 mile run in the middle of my training.

My coach has run Badwater 135 10 times and won twice… so I don't ask her many questions.

She says jump, I ask how high.

I didn't feel like traveling for a race so, with her blessing, the Monmouth County 100 was born.

April 25th, 2026 I set out from Sea Bright, NJ to Brielle, NJ to run out and back a total of 4 times (25 miles each way).

The weather was horrid, the company (my friends) were great, and every 711 I ran into was open.

To make a 23 hour and 30 minute long story short, we got it done.

Check out the video here my crew chief for life, Taylor, made.

The race is on July 27th and I couldn't be more excited to continue training for the big day.

THIS MONTH'S THOUGHT

Be a dream chaser.

Something speak to you and make you feel alive?

Go and chase it!

I sat down on the third episode of The Feels Good Show w/ my friend, Cynthia, who discusses her journey from Germany to the United States to become an entrepreneur.
